Industry Day 2019

On 13th July, we held our second annual Industry Day; an event which aims to bridge the gap between education and development industries of games development and become a nurturing ground for Singapore-based talents to springboard their career in the industry. The Industry Day was supported by Eliphant Pte Ltd, the organizers behind GameStart, and Impixel, an innovation space that aims to incubate and support the local games & tech industry. Close to 200 attendees (an increase of more than 60% from last year’s inaugural event)  showed up, including a Malaysian delegation of approximately 40 attendees from Camou Academy of Media Arts, Chicken Feet Studio (a studio the academy is incubating) and Glow Production. The Industry Day had many veteran game creators share their experiences,  trials and tribulations, as well as giving valuable, diverse advice to the attendees. Jonathan Blow, Game Designer and Programmer, shared his insights into the industry into ind...

MYSG Women in Games

Sometime back in February, Gwen & Cheryll attended the very first local Women in Games meetup organised by the Facebook group, MYSG Women in Games ! A bit of history: Mayling giving a talk at Level Up KL 2017 (Photo: Yan Marchal)  It all started when Mayling , formerly from EA Motive at that time, was coming down to give a game design talk at  LevelUPKL  2017! As a Malaysian-born game developer, she was curious about what's going on for women in the local games industry, hence starting the Facebook group originally meant for women in games Malaysia to join and organise face-to-face meetups. Her drive to create a safe space for women to discuss industry issues was new and refreshing for many local industry folks, inspired by other women in games initiatives in Montreal, where she was based at during that time. Meanwhile sometime in 2017, Gwen and Natalie Mello , a fellow gamedev from Singapore decided to take a train up to KL and attend IGDA Malaysia's gamed...

Spotlight Interview: Elijah James from RapBot Studios

Note: This is a cross-post from Red Hare Studios ( original link ) Daily life can be chaotic. We may have a stressful job, a thankless boss, or a busy schedule in a noisy city. So why not appreciate the little things in this adorable casual game called Tsuki Adventure? Developed by RapBot Studios, this game about escapism to a simpler lifestyle ironically took a lot of effort to make. Elijah James and his team have worked hard to bring their company and this game to the spotlight. This interview will encompass some of their experiences in putting their game on the global stage. Check out their website –  https://www.facebook.com/tsukiadventure/ Q: Give the readers a short introduction about yourself and RapBot Studios. What is your role? What is your company about? SGG Website Launch @ Singapore Indies 2018 Year-End Event

Year-end parties are plentiful, but nothing beats fun loving game devs coming together for a whacky and mysterious "Singapore Games Industry Award 2018", h osted by James Barnard &  Gennadii Potapov from  the Singapore Indie (Game Developers) group) . SGG was given some air time at the end of the event to shout out about our website and the  #SGGamedevs  and  #SGGames  directory which went live. It was a really pleasant surprise that  JioPlayGame.com  happened to be there and featured both  the event  and our mission as a  registered games association ! The listing on our database is purely community driven  and may not have every game/company listed.  If you like to list a company or feature a game on our website, just follow the instructions in the  following forms , fill them up and we will get it up in no time after some quick checks! (or you can also email us at hello@sgg.org.sg if you spot any er...

Gamestart 2018

As with every year, the SGG team visits Gamestart organised by Eliphant - unfortunately, we didn't have a Singapore Pavilion this year. However, SGG was part of a really cool panel titled "How do I survive as a game developer?"  "How do I survive as a game developer?" panel (Photo: Adrian Kwong) Gwen (myself) had the opportunity to moderate a stellar panel of game devs - Shawn Toh from Battlebrew, Kang Soon from Joysteak, Desmond Hinkson from Republic Polytechnic and Carlo Arellano from Super Evil Megacorp (our guest from overseas!). 2 of our homegrown developers have also won Gamestart's indie award! We're really proud of them both, especially with Cubix being recent graduates of SUTD Game Lab's Game Innovation program.
